      Hartpury College recruits students with learning difficulties and/or disabilities onto a wide range of vocational programmes.  Our well regarded Learning Support Department is currently looking for motivated, flexible and conscientious staff. 

       

      You will need sound literacy skills to level 2 and ideally, experience of working with post 16 young people in an educational setting. Knowledge and/or experience of our subject areas including Equine, Sport, Agriculture and Animal Management would be an advantage, as you will work with learners in and out of the classroom.

      We need an outstanding individual to join our enthusiastic team working predominately in our Animal Department but with some delivery into our Agriculture curriculum. We provide a rich environment for animal education, encompassing biological, companion animal, production animal, zoo animal, equine and veterinary teaching, research and knowledge exchange activities. As well as a strong academic base in animal ethics and welfare, we have extensive contacts across a range of animal industries, complemented by extensive practical facilities on site. 

       

      Like us, you should be passionate about animals and education and want to make a difference both to our students and within the wider animal sector. Ideally you will have some experience of teaching, preferably in Higher Education, which will be combined with voluntary, vocational or educational experience of working with animals in practice. We also welcome applications from those with a PG research background seeking to transition into lecturing.

       

      You will have a relevant postgraduate qualification and demonstrate a willingness to advance your teaching and learning practice as well as develop a record of practice and scholarship in Animal Welfare. Whilst a teaching qualification is desirable, candidates without one will be supported to achieve this within their first two years in post.

We have a small but vibrant community of post graduate research students and you would be expected to supervise doctoral candidates within this area. Experience of PhD supervision to completion is essential, as is a track record of income generation.       Hartpury University’s estate boasts its own 1,000 acre commercial Home Farm split across several sites. The farm comprises a 250-cow dairy herd, 250 dairy youngstock, 200-head beef unit, an arable enterprise mainly growing combinable crops, and a forage unit growing all forage required by the farm. The farm also boasts a sheep unit which is made up of approximately 800 ewes, split into an indoor lambing North Country mule flock, and an outdoor lambing flock. This includes providing hay and haylage for our equine department of approx. 200 horses.  

       

      We are looking for an additional member to continue a large-scale transition of a key farming enterprise.

       

      The ideal candidate will be able to milk, carry out stock tasks, and operate machinery to a high standard, and be responsible for the dairy in the absence of the Head Herdsperson. We are seeking an individual who has an interest in working with, and demonstrating best practice to, students.

       

      The herd is comprised of approximately 250 Autumn calving Holstein-Friesian cows, and milking takes place through a 16:32 rapid-exit De Laval parlour.

       

      Suitable candidates will also be expected to be a flexible team player, with a willingness to assist on the other enterprises as needed, including the breeding ewe flock, dairy youngstock, beef, and arable enterprises.

      We need an experienced lecturer to join our Human Animal Interaction team at the university. Hartpury provides a rich environment for anthrozoology, encompassing biological, pedagogic, companion animal, production animal, zoo animal, equine and veterinary teaching, research and knowledge exchange activities. As well as a strong academic base in animal ethics and welfare, we have extensive contacts across a range of animal industries and within education and human healthcare, which support a vibrant and collaborative anthrozoology research group.

       

      You will have the Higher Education teaching experience to deliver across our animal portfolio, combined with vocational or educational experience of Human Animal Interaction in practice. Prior experience of general animal science and UG and PG supervision would be welcomed. With a collegiate approach to teamwork, you will demonstrate excellence and innovation in teaching and supporting high-quality student experience. You will have the drive to progress the field of Human Animal Interaction externally and be a role model to our students, inspiring them to succeed in this sector. You will have a relevant postgraduate qualification and be keen to develop a record of practice and scholarship in Human Animal Interaction.
